The Go-To Therapeutic Parenting Handbook For Foster Carers

We are beyond proud to have worked with Tree House Care’s Trauma and Attachment Therapist, John Anderson, to publish ‘The Go-To Therapeutic Parenting Handbook For Foster Carers’. It’s been a real labour of love for everyone involved, and one we hope has resulted in a useful, day-to-day guide and reference book for all of our foster carers and members of staff.

“A very wise foster carer once told us that parenting was about raising children that other people wanted to spend time with! This is our gift to help you with that challenge, the best tools that we could think of.”

Jill and Adele, co-founders and owners of Tree House Care.

Each chapter provides insight and top tips that offer practical ideas you can use day-to-day as a foster carer. Everything is geared towards increasing the chances of you finding a way to connect meaningfully with your child and to help them, and you, heal and thrive.

Cover of the book named "the go to therapeutic parenting handbook for foster carers"

Our Trauma and Attachment Therapist, John, has worked with Tree House Care for over 10 years, providing Level 1 and 2 Therapeutic Parenting courses frequently throughout the year, as well as optional, monthly 1.5hr therapeutic consultation sessions. These sessions allow you to reflect on what’s happening in your home currently and discuss therapeutic fostering ideas that might help, using the book as a reference guide.

Therapeutic parenting isn’t an exact science and part of being a great foster carer is knowing that it’s ok to go back to the drawing board, reflect, and try again if needs be. With that in mind, the book contains lots of thoughts and ideas but makes the assumption that you will weigh up what is and isn’t useful. The intention of the book is to offer another path when ‘normal’ parenting no longer works.

“In my opinion being a foster carer is exceptionally worthwhile. However, nothing of great value comes without cost. You are going where most people would fear to tread. So please recognise the value of what you are attempting and be kind to yourself along the way. I hope this book helps you on the journey.”

John Anderson, Trauma and Attachment Therapist.

The Go-To Therapeutic Parenting Handbook For Foster Carers is provided to all Tree House Care foster carers free of charge and forms the basis of our monthly training sessions, as well as our specific Therapeutic Parenting courses and consultation sessions.
