Neurodiversity and Fostering

Tree House Care is looking for foster carers who understand, value and celebrate neurodivergence.

Every child is unique. For children who are autistic, have ADHD, sensory processing differences or other forms of neurodivergence, having a foster carer who understands their needs can make a life-changing difference.

You don’t need to have all the answers. You just need to be willing to learn, listen and see the child behind the diagnosis.

We have specialist staff dedicated to supporting foster carers and children with neurodivergent needs which can help you to:

  • Understand neurodivergence and how it may affect a child’s behaviour, communication and relationships
  • Develop strategies around communication, routines and emotional regulation
  • Understand sensory needs and create an environment where children can feel safe and comfortable
  • Recognise and build on a child’s strengths, interests and individuality
  • Access tailored advice and support throughout your fostering journey
  • Develop your confidence as a carer – whether you are neurodivergent yourself or caring for a neurodivergent child

We have a number of neurodiversity training courses available to our foster carers, and work in collaboration with a psychology-led therapy and assessment provider.

Are you neurodivergent? You can foster too.

We believe being neurodivergent can bring valuable strengths to fostering – including empathy, creativity, different perspectives and an ability to understand children who may experience the world differently.

You’ll have access to a team who understands that there is no “one size fits all” approach to fostering.

Your experience could change a child’s future. If you have the patience, compassion and commitment to help a child thrive, we’d love to hear from you.
